The Children’s Ministry
Welcome! The Children’s Ministry at Oakwood Community Church is known as “The Oaks.” Our passion is to partner with families to lay a strong spiritual foundation where children love and serve the Lord, have deep-rooted faith and a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. Oakwood’s Children’s ministry is designed to promote spiritual growth through Biblically-based curriculum and build relationships with other children and teachers through creative and engaging activities.
Purpose- Why We Exist
O– Oakwood’s purpose is for each child to
A– Ask questions and Seek God. (Matthew 7:7-8)
K– Know God personally as their Savior as they Grow in faith. (John 3:3, Romans 10:9, 1 Peter 2:2-3, 2 Peter 3:18)
S– Share their faith with others and serve Him wholeheartedly. (Matthew 5:16, Mark 16:15)
Sunday School 9 a.m.
Nursery (6 weeks- 23 month olds): Our infants and toddlers have a safe place to play and learn simple biblical truths. All nursery volunteers complete background checks and receive training to provide the best care possible.
Seedlings (2-3 year olds): Our Seedlings class meets in the nursery. While there, children learn through play, songs, and crafts and participate in a Bible-based, God-centered teaching time.
PreK-6th Grade: Students are split into classes by grade levels for age appropriate Bible teaching and activities. As a result, kids further understand and apply the Biblical principals in the lesson. We currently use The Gospel Project for Kids curriculum so all of the children learn the same lesson every week, which encourages families to review and discuss the lesson together at home.
Classes are divided by:
- Younger elementary (1st/2nd grade and 3rd/4th grade)
- Older elementary (5th/6th grade)
Sunday 10:30 a.m.
During the 10:30 a.m. service, nursery care is available for newborns through age 4. Children age 5 and up are encouraged to worship with their parents at 10:30 a.m.
Ignite Bible Study for 5th/6th Graders
Oakwood offers a Wednesday night Bible study for 5th and 6th graders. Visit the Oakwood events calendar for specific times and locations. During Bible study, we utilize a curriculum designed specifically for preteens. In this case, a topical curriculum that’s all theirs. One that speaks to what they are dealing with right now. The group also meets several times throughout the year for fellowship and service projects. It is a great way to build friendships and have fun!
Vacation Bible School
Summer Vacation Bible School is geared for kids entering Kindergarten-6th Grade. This is an exciting time for children to immerse themselves in Biblical truths while building unforgettable friendships.
We look forward to getting to know your family! Please contact our Children’s Ministry Director, Laura Beuch, with any questions: Laura.Beuch@oakwoodcommunity.church
