Stephen Ministries exists at Oakwood Community Church in order to offer one-to-one Christ-centered emotional and spiritual care for individuals going through a crisis or difficult time.

Stephen Ministers care for people with a wide range of needs - grief, divorce, unemployment, hospitalization, a spiritual crisis, financial stress, infertility, rehabilitation after an injury, terminal illness, relocation, long-term disability, and many other life difficulties.

What Is a Stephen Minister?

Stephen Ministers are lay men and women trained to provide one-to-one care to those experiencing a difficult time in life, such as grief, divorce, job loss, chronic or terminal illness, or relocation. They have a compassionate heart for those who are hurting, and are equipped with caring ministry skills through training.

A Stephen Minister typically has one care receiver at a time and meets with that person once a week to listen, care, pray, encourage, and offer emotional and spiritual support. Stephen Ministers come from all walks of life, but they all share a passion for bringing Christ’s love and care to people during a time of need.
